I hate tags in cloud format!

Posted by on Friday, 14 October, 2005

Is it only me or does anyone else hate this so-called cloud format which is so popular lately?

Also, I’m getting really sick and tired of the hype surrounding this Web 2.0… The web is the web is the web. Or, a rose by any other name is still a rose, etc.

Grumpy signing off….. 😉

Fixed the old links finally….

Posted by on Tuesday, 4 October, 2005

/disregard this post if you hate web technology :-) /

Well I finally fixed the old links here. Just when I set up WordPress for the first time, I used a really really bad permalink structure (it looked like /2004/11/17 etc. where the last figure was the post ID) which I changed to include the post name instead later. But a lot of search engines picked up the old links, and I thought instead of reaching a 404 page, better to redirect the user to the correct page. So with a little .htaccess hacking I made that work.

Funniest video of 2005?

Posted by on Monday, 26 September, 2005

This might just be the funniest (in a sad way) video found on the Internet this year so far:

Will You Go To Prom With Me!!!!?

After soom googling I found out that she is lipsyncing (or karaokeing, or making a fool of herself; whatever you want to call it) to Go To Prom Anyways! by Jesse Buy Nothing. The best bit is when what I think is her grandmother comes in and dances in the background! Hilarious!

You go girl! Way to make “fool of the year 2005” !

Lost in Japan — New and Improved!

Posted by on Wednesday, 21 September, 2005

If you thought I had been updating somewhat seldom recently, you now understand why! I have been fairly busy preparing the new design for this blog; and I must say that I am very satisfied with the end result.

A quick rundown of the changes (in layman’s terms):

  • Two sidebars; the left contains mainly navigational items, the right one contains ads and external links
  • New main header image, this one showing the Golden Pavillion in Kyoto.
  • The Mini Movie Blog is now displayed in the right sidebar – this is a list of the recent movies I’ve seen, together with a short (one sentence) review of it.

If you’re interested in a little bit more technical details, I can tell you that the “Mini Movie Blog” is actually another WordPress blog inserted with a PHP include (Thanks to Blogger for inspiring me to do that) into this blog’s sidebar. Yes, it could be done in an easier way, but this way it’s very flexible since it’s controlled completely outside the scope of the main blog. Oh, and a big thanks to Andy Baio from whom I totally stole the idea of having a side-blog (check out his Waxy Links) and also the basic design of it.

Further, getting that left sidebar in place was tricky in IE – I still have to use a conditional CSS statement for IE to place the sidebar correctly to the left of the main content. If you compare the Firefox rendering with the IE one, you will see a slight difference. If ANYONE has a solution to this, so I can use the same CSS for IE, please let me know!

[Edit]
I updated the permalink structure too…. The previous setup was stupid and ugly, now the actual post-title in included in the URL.

Numa Numa fever reaches Japan

Posted by on Sunday, 11 September, 2005

Well it seems Numa Numa fever has reached Japan and exploded completely here. Unfortunately, it seems to have lost a bit of its roots – not many seem to know the “original” Numa Numa Dance (see link above) as made popular by Gary Brolsma.

Here in Japan the main theme seems to be dancing cats drinking sake….? What’s that all about? And they pronunce the “numa numa” as “noma noma” which sounds like “drink drink”. I dunno, t

Here’s a whole page dedicated to the Numa Numa craze in Japan – it’s bookmarked all vital sites and flash animations produced over here. The page is in Japanese, but if you scroll down you get videos and flash animations.
