I didnt know Tokyo as well as I thought

…at least that must be the case, since I only scored 6 out of 10 correct in National Geographic’s Tokyo Quiz.
It started out easy, and my being full of conceit, thought to myself that this is will be a walk in the Ueno Park so to speak; but no… They really threw some difficult questions in there, so do hop over and give it a try and see if you yourself can call yourself an expert on Tokyo, as I thought a mere 5 minutes ago….
OK that quiz was stupid. I got 4/10 as someone who speaks Japanese fluently and has lived in Tokyo for more than a year.
Then I took the quiz on Bangkok (I lived there for 10 months and speak almost no Thai) – 8/10!
The difference? The Bkk quiz asked actual questions about the city – the train system, the airport, elephants, the King.
The Tokyo quiz was mostly irrelevant crap. Foreign sumo wrestlers?! Also, no one should be expected to know the names of three festivals that nobody even goes to.
As much as I love their magazine, National Geographic can stuff it with their fancypants quizzes.
Yeah, I do have to agree. The questions were very strange in some cases. I actually tried the Seoul quiz (where I’ve been a few times and stayed for about 2 months in total) and got 5/10..
And then I tried the Las Vegas quiz, a town which I pride myself on knowing virtually everything about, and I still only got 5/10….
